My 16 year old son is very interested in coral and therefore decided he wanted to get his Open Water certification. Due to his age he needed an adult to accompany him on the overnight portion of his training (4 x ocean dives via 2 day/1 night live aboard). As a qualified diver I graciously volunteered and am glad that I did. As I have never been diving as part of a live aboard/overnight stay I was a bit apprehensive. However, I am now hooked and am busily planning our next trip. A brief summary: Open water dive course: My son spent two days in the classroom + pool. He then accompanied me on the Ocean Quest for an overnight stay to complete his 4 x ocean dives. His instructor, Britney, was great. She even accompanied my son 1 on 1 for his last dive, so that he could dive with me as a qualified diver. This was over and above but was really appreciated - diving with one of my children was on my bucket list. Overnight liveaboard Boat - very stable and 0 need for seasickness tablets (I was a bit worried about this before the trip). Cabins - as far as I am concerned, they matched the quality of the cabins of a 5-star cruise ship (just missing a private balcony). Cabin was very clean and even had a small desk so I could review dive footage on my computer + charge my devices. Staff - second to none. All staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. After each dive I only had to take my first stage off the tank, and they took care of the rest. Meals - in a word - delicious. Every meal was prepared to perfection and hit the spot every time. For those that wanted it, there were seconds as well. Organisation - excellent. Departing from Cairns we were introduced to all staff and given an overview of how the two days on board were going to run. In addition, each dive was always preceded with a thorough dive briefing. Don't worry if you don't have a dive buddy as Divers Den will find one for you and in my case, I got to dive with staff on two occasions. Diving – each day the boat visits 2 x different dive sites. On this trip we dived Saxon Reef (Sandra’s & Twin Peaks) and Norman Reef (Plate Top). I even took part in the “Fluoro Diving” night dive. On this unique experience we had UV torches which really showed off some coral like I have never seen before. As my son wasn’t qualified, he was unable to dive at night so he took part in “Sharks in the Dark”. This is where participants don their snorkel gear and from the dive platform look at the reef sharks (i.e. non-bitey ones) swimming off the stern. This was one of highlights of the trip for him and he still talks about it. I'm not sure what else to write other than saying I highly recommend Divers Den and especially stays aboard the Ocean Quest. I can't wait for my next adventure with Divers Den.
BEST experience for a first time snorkeler! Went out on November 20th 2021 with Divers Den and the moment myself and friend stepped on the boat the atmosphere was great, the staff were friendly and welcoming. Everyone was professional and informative of what to expect for the day, everything was well prepared. Staff were so supportive when I was very seasick, constantly checking in to see if I was ok, staff were there to help put a smile on my face. The sea was a bit rough when out snorkeling but staff were great with being on the reef and supporting with safety equipment, staff have such great knowledge and their enthusiasm continually showed throughout the day. We travelled to the outer reef and it was just amazing snorkeling and seeing all the different types of fish, open clams and coral. Not to mention great pricing too! Lunch and afternoon tea provided, snorkel gear and stinger suits provided and were all included in the pricing. Read a couple of bad reviews but we are so glad we decided to go with Divers Den, other wise we would of missed out on an amazing day. I really can’t wait to snorkel again with these guys in the future when I return back to Cairns.
A very affordable luxury holiday. Such a genuinely kind, friendly, supportive and professional crew who had the knowledge and capability to take our experience to the next level. Extremely comfortable cabins and decks, historical and meaningful themed decor, superb meals, impressive safety routines, Thank you Tom-Tom, Bradley, Levi, Chris, Gabby, Sarah, Caitlin & Maria, and a very big special thank you to Louis, who hands down is the best snorkel guide! We hope to return next year.
Lily did a refresher course and then took us out for a double dive on the reef. She made us feel very comfortable and was very knowledgeable about the individual reefs and dive spots as well as the various marine life we saw. Would highly recommend learning to dive and going out in the reef with Lily.
I had the most amazing time on board the Ocean Quest on the 5 day/4 night liveaboard dive trip this October. Levi and his team were fantastic, fun, friendly and highly professional. The food onboard was plenty and excellent (compliments to the Chef!) and the dive sites were nothing short of spectacular, and we also had perfect conditions all week, which helped. I was lucky to board the Ocean Quest in Cairns at the start of the voyage and return to Cairns the same way after 4 nights. People booking different trips (1,2,3 nights) would have been picked up by day boat, dive on it in the morning, and then meet up with the Ocean Quest on an outer reef site - and/or vice versa. This way, the mix of people on board changes every day. This doesn’t affect the daily routine much for the remaining passengers, in fact the schedule is the same every day: breakfast, 2 dives, lunch followed with a longer break (during which the above mentioned changeover occurs), one afternoon dive, and a night dive after dinner, then dessert before the bar closes at 10pm. The only thing I would change is to have a first dive before breakfast instead, because both the first morning dive and the night dive is done with a pretty full stomach straight after the meals. The boat is moved twice daily, in the morning before breakfast and at lunchtime, which means there were plenty of sites to explore during the trip. However because the boat only visited the Norman and Saxon Reefs, they could not avoid visiting two sites twice, which was not a big deal but more variety would have been appreciated. The twin cabin was more spacious than expected, but they could use a little TLC with the cupboard walls showing some black mould and could generally be cleaned around the edges a bit more. The window shades are also not supposed to be opened, perhaps they could be replaced at some point with new ones or a different system. But with a desk, enough power ports and a reasonably spacious bathroom with shower and a button-push toilet (as opposed to a “pump” marine toilet) still very comfortable all in all. And did I mention the showers? Always hot and with excellent water pressure, just perfect every time! When travelling solo, you most likely share a cabin with someone else. I was matched with a diver roughly the same age, same qualifications (Rescue Diver), same number of dives (we both did our 100th dive on this trip), and on top of that similar jobs - it was either well planned or just a coincidence, but of course we got on extremelywell and remained dive buddies for the whole trip, and therefore never needed to pay for a guide to dive with us (which is otherwise $15/dive/person). I could definitely recommend Divers Den and the Ocean Quest Liveaboard. The longer, the better and I would do it again, although next time perhaps on a Minke Whale trip for something different.
2nd trip out with Oceanquest this year. I also noticed a couple of negative reviews that were left on TripAdvisor about the Divers Den trip in July to see the minke whales. I was on this trip where the generator failed with my scuba diving buddies from Townsville. This trip is so lovely and the crew are fab. The food is abundant and great quality, the gear is all well maintained, the diving is safe and organised. The boat is not a 5 star hotel but its clean and super comfy. We had Prof Minke (Dr Alastair Birtles) aboard who provided a series of lectures and videos about minke whales. Yes the generator failed, but there were no issues, we had another generator and the crew decided we shouldn't go further north (and further from Cairns). The days diving continued without interruption. I was on the top deck when it happened and didn't see any crew running around in a life jackets. The crew were super calm and organized. The next night there was a serious medical emergency - of course we had to return to Cairns ASAP. We were docked in Cairns the next morning and we technically missed a days diving which was compensated for by Diversden - which i have to say was rather nice of them since it really wasn't their fault. We also got to stay on the boat like a floating hotel with water views and they provided all meals until the end of the trip. Its an awesome trip, and I have already rebooked to go again.
We did the two day, one night liveaboard as one diver and one snorkeller. It was our first liveaboard experience but based on the great experience we had with Divers Den, it won't be our last! The rooms we clean and comfortable and the food was great! The itinerary was jam-packed to ensure we got the most of our time on the reef. I dived six times over the two days and my partner three intro dives and lots of snorkelling. Mel and Tom, the dive supervisors, were very professional, and the various divemasters we interacted with, including Marr, Tobi, Patrick, James and others, were all friendly, patient, and fun. We hope to be back for another (longer) trip soon!
This is our second time doing a 2night/3day liveaboard with Divers Den and once again we give them 5 stars! We are already looking at when we can book again!! The food was great! So filling and all 3 of us cleaned our plate every meal, thank you Chris! (The cake with pink icing was delish) The dive sites were exceptional!! We paid the $15 for a guide (worth every cent) for a couple of sites and Nico was friendly, professional and very caring! Thank you so much Nico!! Tom was the Trip Director and so helpful, always smiling and knew everyone by name! All staff were great! Lots of jokes and laughs! The rooms are super clean, very comfortable with lots of room! The showers are fantastically hot! I would absolutely recommend Divers Den liveaboard to everyone!
Just got back from a 2 night liveaboard on OceanQuest. Could not fault a thing! Nine dives in total, including 2 awesome night dives. Fantastic food and crew, Loved the accomm - heaps of space, comfy beds and great hot water pressure in the shower! Bonus!! Shout out to Nico for his guiding and forever being helpful, and Levi, Tom, Mario, James & Tobi for their attention, advice…and entertainment 😁 Will be back again!
